What do you see?

To me, it looks like a city at night, seen from an airplane.

I remember arriving in Australia late at night.

Outside the window, there was almost nothing but darkness.

Then, little by little,

tiny lights began to appear below.

Scattered across the darkness,

they slowly revealed the shape of a city.

“We’re almost there.”

That feeling of excitement,

mixed with a little uncertainty,

just before arriving somewhere new.

When I look into this opal,

the flashes of green, blue, and orange

take me back to that view from above.

A city glowing quietly in the darkness,

hidden inside a tiny opal.

僕には、

飛行機の窓から見下ろした夜の街に見える。

オーストラリアへ行った時、

到着したのはもう深夜だった。

窓の外に広がっていたのは、

どこまでも続く暗闇。

その中に、少しずつ小さな光が見え始める。

点々と散らばっていた光が、

やがて街の輪郭をつくっていく。

「もうすぐ着くんだ。」

知らない土地へ降り立つ前の高揚感と、

ほんの少しの緊張。

このオパールの暗闇の中に浮かぶ、

緑、青、オレンジの小さな光を見ていると、

あの夜、上空から見た景色を思い出す。

小さなオパールの中に広がる、

静かに輝く夜の街。
